How does it work for purchases?
When you are ready to make your purchase with your ACU VISA Check Card simply tell the clerk you wish to pay with VISA. They will then ask you or the card swipe machine will direct you to choose Debit or Credit. If you choose debit you will be required to key in your (PIN) and then you will be given a receipt. If you choose credit, once the transaction is complete, you sign a receipt and get a copy for your records. Then the funds will be automatically withdrawn from your checking account.
Why does the merchant ask me "Debit" or "Credit"?
By asking this question the merchant is determining how you would like your transaction processed. No matter how you respond, the funds will be automatically withdrawn from your checking account.
What is the difference between Debit and Credit when I use my card?
When you choose debit, the transaction is processed through the ATM network and you are required to enter your PIN. If you say credit, the transaction is processed through the VISA Network, and you are required to sign a receipt. ACU recommends that you use choose "credit" to complete your transaction, as it is less costly for the credit union to process than an ATM transaction.
How do I keep track of my purchases?
Whenever you use your ACU VISA Check Card, you'll get a receipt, just like at the ATM. Simply save the receipts and record each transaction in your check register when you get home. Transactions will also be listed on your monthly checking account statement.
Are there any spending limits?
Point Of Sale (POS) purchases can be made up to the available balance in your checking account (less any ATM withdrawals) from the previous business day.
ATM withdrawals may be made up to the available balance in your savings and/or checking account(s); however they may not exceed $600 per day.
What is my liability if my card is lost or stolen?
Your liability for the VISA Check Card is limited to $50 if you notify both VISA and ACU within two (2) business days of the loss or theft. Failure to notify VISA and ACU within two (2) business days may result in losses up to $500.
